    MMS: Moral Mauling Scandals
    thinks Dude Hyderabadi...,

    When I heard of the Delhi school’s MMS in December 2004 .., I was taken aback. I thought, ‘Am I still in India? Have we gone from being a country where a protective father dropping his shy daughter off at school nervously and coming back a good 15 mins early to pick her up, to the now-not-so-shy minor daughters letting some guy with a cam-phone that’s a lil’ too ‘high’ for his age. use it to film an intimate moment between them, which in the first place shouldn’t be taking place !?’.

    I’m sure thousands of other Indians must have thought the same, may be in phrases of smaller length. The boy got sent to juvenile custody, the girl reportedly left the country and bazee.com’s CEO got arrested. Lessons learnt, India’s back to normal.. or so everybody thought. Sadly, it’s not.

    If you know where to look on the net, there’s the shocking audio-visual evidence that so many crazy people out there still armed with those dangerous and sneaky privacy encroachers that fit right into your pocket that can do as much harm as good.
    So are these girls victims of circumstances? Not really. In most of these cases, the girl is well aware of the person ‘she trusts’ handling a cam-phone. Trust... people like these give that word a bad name. One uses it too much n the other misuses it

    I don’t want to put too much of my personal life or opinions on the blog, but in this case, I have to. People in this world have changed so much, in many ways, that you JUST CANNOT trust anybody a complete 100 %. I have scores of people who disagree with me but, you’re just looking at the evil world through rose colored glasses. Be careful choosing the people you trust. One careless mistake can kill the trust your folks have on you, you might not be accepted in this cruel society and then, after everything’s over, you’ll have tough time trust anybody else ever again.

    Here’s a proverb that you should take seriously, and as my personal recommendation, take it a little further, “Trust not a new friend or an old enemy and trust not definitely somebody with a camera phone”.

    " The Birds & the Bees"
    thinks icarus...,

    I have always been fascinated by the captivating power of the lucre. Everybody, everywhere, everytime(mostly atleast) has a thought pertaining in some way or another to this mother of all magnets. If Ali, could "fly like a butterfly, and sting like a bee", this is like a point blank shot to the temple with a very high-bore gun. The conduit for the flow of all this moolah, the stock market, prompted me into coming up with this very bizzare analogy while being perched on my thinking pedestal.

    Here goes... (this refers to the recent rise and fall in the Indian economy)The rise of the sensex (indicator of the nation’s growth) can be credited to a variety of reasons from expendable incomes to favorable global phenomenon, from foreign investments to the coming of age of our own industries and so on. The meteoric rise can be compared to the feelings of a guy in the company of a beautiful woman, being enticed and excited. The guy gets aroused at a steady pace reaching higher and higher plateaus on his way to his threshold. As the seduction reaches its peak the guy makes one final charge and like Newton’s law, “everything that goes up must come down’.

    The guy is no exception. Once the threshold is breached, the guy can no longer defy gravity. What happens? He begins to deflate. Only in the case of the sensex, this fall was exponential.Investment, yeah I know the word sound dreary and boring and more often than not, best left to the patriarch’s of the family. But with financial stability becoming the need of the hour for guys and the fairer sex (independently & together) investing is one heck of an idea. Oh and before I forget, this is most probably the best time in the country’s history in terms of economic growth and can be can be compared to a guy’s growth on ‘Viagra’. Thus the time is ripe to get on the bandwagon and reap the spoils for the rest of your adult, active lives.

    Alright, for those who think short term; no pain, maximum gain, try this on for size. Your better half’s birthday is on the anvil or an important day of your relationship is fast approaching and you, my friend, as usual are short on cash! The thing for you would be to invest small, for a few weeks and withdraw at the end of that making a neat, albeit smallish profit. This technique also works when you total your car and can’t afford, literally to tell your folks about it and could use some moolah!Before going any further, let me just spell it out for you, “the previous paragraph is a complete no no!” I was just kidding around. This is best left to the experts. Dabbling in such doings is as hazardous as playing with fire, and will leave you scarred for life (at least majority of the times) and will leave you ‘up the creek without a paddle’. The idea is as ludicrous as a study done on the U.S Presidential elections, which revealed that the taller candidate always won.

    Coming back to the analogy we started off with (if you don’t remember, go back to START), what the whole investment game needs is foreplay, vis-à-vis, research, and loads of it. Copious quantities of this will hold you in good stead throughout your adult, physically active life (pardon the pun).You can never get enough of it and large doses of this never resulted in a grunt of discomfort from anybody.Once this is adequately dealt with (whenever that may be), one can get down on their hands and knees and delve deep into the world of… you guessed it, money (for all those who guessed different, get a life!). All this talk of analogies is actually quite tedious and has prompted the writer to take a thoroughly deserved break, to succumb to the call of the thinking pedestal!!

    Perverted, maybe... Insidious, could be... but these are the thoughts that make life fun and worth waking upto!! Think about it?

    Astala"vista" baby!!
    thinks Deadeye...,

    It took nearly five years for Microsoft to come up with their new version of operating system, Windows Vista.I was dying to lay my hands on it and when I finally did, it didn’t meet up to my expectations. Although there are few unique and wonderful features included in Vista, I feel Vista might still fail to impress the advanced or the high-end consumers. It’s absolutely obvious and normal to expect more but like always Microsoft has played safe by targeting the Home and the corporate segments. Big players cannot afford to take chances when there’s tough competition given by Linux and Apple on the other hand.

    I am neither a PC geek to write or give my opinion on the source code programming nor a tweaking expert to find out the flaws in Vista. I belong to those normal classes of people who loves creativity or who often looks for change. If you also belong to the same cluster, I feel Vista may not gratify your expectations. However there are few modifications like bringing the concept of AERO into picture which gives a 3d effect but I cannot say Vista is a complete new experience as majority of the features remains the same which might be a slight drawback.

    There’s an interesting feature called the User Account Control (UAC), with User Account Control and the new Parental Controls in Windows Vista, you can easily create a separate account for each member of the family and control which websites, programs, and games each person can use and install. You will have a calendar along with the time frames so that the administrator of the computer can choose at what time and duration a standard user can log in or what programs he can watch or visit on the internet.

    For example, if the administrator allows control to a standard user on Saturday and Sunday then a standard user cannot log on to the system on weekdays unless he knows the admin password. ;) If your dad doesn’t like you to play games on the PC for more than an hour, with UAC he can control that too. Kids, watch out!! If your parents are strict, you will have serious trouble unlocking your user account.

    However, why fear when I am here? ;) There’s a bug in UAC. You can bypass your account control by changing the time in the system setup or BIOS. For example, if you are a standard user and your account has been locked for a particular time frame, say from (6pm-9pm), in this case all you have to do is, go into the BIOS and change the timing of the computer to that time frame where you can access your account. Use it to the full advantage before Microsoft comes up with a fix to it. Go Vista.

    Minimum requirements for running Windows Vista starter are:

    1. 800 MHz of processor.
    2. 64MB- video card.
    3. Minimum of 512 MB RAM.
    4. 20GB hard disk with 15GB of free space.

    Minimum requirements for running Windows Vista Aero are:

    1. 1GHz of processor.
    2. Min 128 MB video card.
    3. 1GB RAM.
    4. 20GB hard disk with 15GB of free space.

    Vista can be installed using a bootable DVD; therefore get a DVD-ROM/RW drive if you don’t have one. To know more about Vista, it's better you go and visit Microsoft Astala"vista"!!

    What if what you saw knocked you out....?
    thinks Dude Hyderabadi...,

    I read this post on editindia where a girl who, after a tiff with her brother, locked herself in her room and hanged herself and died. She did that after repeatedy seeing Saddam's execution-by-hanging video.

    When I read that story, my anger over the irresponsibility of the media in showing graphic videos or images on tv or the newspaper, that I have had for quite sometime flared up. I just had to bring it out here. I've always observed that the media (especially the regional ones) is only obsessed on how 'hot' their news is or 'how much' , they don't even take the effort to understand or foresee what effect their news has on the sometimes sensitive audience. May be they shud remember that television and the newspaper are as easily available to emotionally sensitive people as to everybody else.

    Video footage and pictures of beheaded victims of crime, scenes of bomb blasts, bloodshed, rotting bodies, victims of accidental electrocution or those burnt alive are displayed without any kind of viewer descrition. Those gory scenes are enough to make a normal person dizzy, imagine how kids or old people or emotionally sensitive people would react to that.

    I'm impressed by how many international channels offer viewer descrition and also a lower age limit for shows where necessary. It could be impossible to get everybody to follow these guidelines but this is the minimum responsibility of the media to be a little careful and thoughtful about those few who are unfortunately not as strong as others and send the news across to everybody else without having any undesired or unfortunate rection on anybody.

    I'm not sure how long this type of censorship or atleast viewer discretion will take to crawl to all media, but we can definitely start at home with family members or friends taking care that those sensitive people are not exposed to such graphic scenes. Somebody can write to those at higher levels of management at the TV stations or at the press and hope that there's someone sensible enough to realize what they're doing and take care of it.

    Man is powerful than God.
    thinks Deadeye...,

    Place: Hyderabad
    State: Liquid
    Color: Dirty Green

    Contradictions and city of extremes, everything is possible in Bombay Dreams but certainly not in Hyderabad Blues. We see miracles, horror, adventures, controversies and technology. We all know, relation between spirituality and science is always a good topic to deliberate coz one is natural and the other, supernatural which always contains a phrase called “but then…”

    Every guy in Hyderabad is familiar with this place. This place is always nauseating to any new guy who passes over. It was once the pride of the pearl city “but then…” things changed. The story of how the metropolis hullabaloo effected the narrow slums “but then…” is that correct?

    God stood up when the local people started hearing news about it being covered up. If there was no God, hundreds of unregistered houses would have been shattered. So? God is the savior…bottom-line. The drama started this way.., Government decided to cover this stinking old place to expand the dimensions of the city to ease the increasing traffic. “But then…” this place was occupied by hundreds of people who slowly turned their small huts into strong brick walls “but then…” never bothered to register their land.

    Few days later, officials came down to warn the local residents to move away from this place..the land which belonged to the govt. This was the time when God emerged out from the soil. Soon, the local residents multiplied this news of God and they eventually ended up by constructing a small place of worship where God emerged out. The same place where the govt decided to lay roads. “But then…” is this really true? Did God really come up or is it just another story created by God’s creation? Well, for me.., the story is crystal clear. You can go and have a look and if you are lucky enuf you might receive the holy prashad of God also.

    Today, this place still looks the same and the govt is not ready to take any step to hurt the religious sentiments. Well, this is the story of our very own Moosi River which now neither dons the pleasant look of a River nor is the major source of water as earlier.

    Up.... n Down........
    thinks Dude Hyderabadi...,

    Ye, that’s an ok-ok song by Vengaboys, but here, I’m talking about the attire of today’s ‘slightly’ westernized Indian girls. Apparently it’s the ‘in’ thing to wear tops n bottoms (pardon my fashion terminology) that don’t meet at the equator. It’s a different thing to wear not-too-long tops (which some girls can carry off with class) but wearing tiny stuff is something else. May be simple ‘mechanics of fashion’ like the length of a dress when standing n looking in a mirror is different (read longer) than when u sit down somewhere, aren’t considered while buying it.

    Alrite, they say their top’s short, big deal! They don’t mind,but may be they shud mind their low-waist jeans a lil’, especially when they’re not on the waist anymore. It’s obvious that they can’t look at it themselves but scores of others who’re driving or sitting behind them can. I’m not sure nobody really wants to put on a free show of this sorts on purpose, but a lil miscalculation of ‘fashion metrics’ can do it for them, whether they like it or not.

    ‘Who the hell am I to judge what you wear?’ you ask? I’m just somebody among everybody else, the kind of somebody that gets embarrassed seeing somebody else’s undies when they’re not meant to be seen. I’m more than sure that if I take the leniency to inform the girl about this, 'for her own good', I could well come back with a swollen cheek or at least a few curses ringing inside my head. The least they can do, for their dignity, is not just look in the mirror while trying on a new dress, but try it out in all positions.

    India's slowly coming out of its reserved n conservative shell, which is good in many ways, but that doesn't mean that we have to go out of way to ape any other culture. There is the right way n wrong way of doing things. A little proper thinking is all it takes to make the right choice between the two.

    PS: It’s only my good Conscience that’s not letting me put any related pics here.
    The italized terms in the blog are coined by me n don't exist in the sane world.

    To the anonymous commenters:
    1. Are you saying I'm wrong in trying to help save the diginity of our Indian girls ?
    2. Stop being anonymous and get a real name n life, plz.

    Ustad and the Divas : The review
    thinks Dude Hyderabadi...,

    My first look at the promo of this album and I just knew that this would be a real good album. Ustad Sultan Khan, Shreya Ghoshal, Chitra and Sunidhi Chauhan in one album ! Nice ! Bollywood composer Sandesh Shandilya composed the tunes for the album with Salim Sulaiman Duo doing the programming and arranging bit. DJ Mit remixes a few originals of this album bring the song total to 10. Remixes ! In Ustad's album !? Relax... they're good and bearable., almost all.

    Leja Leja is my personal favourite and perhaps the most melodious song of the album. This one song can make you go buy the album. The popularity of this song is evident with the song being screened so often on most of the music channels. I think the video is also cute. The girl’s a bar dancer alrite, but the video is so well made, it doesn’t appear to be vulgar and also to be noticed that the girl n guy meet at the end of the video... a happy ending ! Shreya Ghoshal and Ustad Sultan Khan’s voices add magic to the song and the lyrics, a lil more. I didn't exactly like the remixes. May be beautiful song like this should have been left alone.

    Haiye Re is also a beautiful melody in this album. Chitra makers her entrance in this album through this song. Feels like an older bollywood song sung by Chitra herself for Kareena Kapoor., or may b it’s just me feeling that way. Nevertheless, it’s a song to pay attention to with good lyrics and good melody.

    More Piya, a melodious classical tune performed flawlessly by Sunidhi Chauhan. It’s amazing how Sunidhi Chauhan can sing a loud energetic song like ‘Beedi’ (Omkar) and a slow song like More Piya with equal ease. Ustad’s lines in between sound very nice with the effects added by Salim-Sulaiman.

    Billo is a different song altogether. Definitely has an Indian touch to it., perhaps a Punjabi flavour because of the percussions in the song. It also feels westernized because of the supporting synthesized effects you can hear almost through the entire song in the background. Sunidhi Chauhan like always, sang this song effortlessly. Billo (REMIX) is a plain remixed version of the original. Pretty good coz most of the song except for the beats has been left the same.Billo (CLUB MIX): Very groovy n nice, perhaps will be heard in few of the clubs, but a lil out of place from the rest of the album.

    Hainiya is a beautiful village-folkish kind of melody. Sunidhi Chauhan and Ustad have carried this song beautifully. A girl singing to a boy is the theme of the song and it’s very well composed and penned.

    Rangeelo Rut is an interesting song. It’s a Rajasthani song, which I can understand partly, but I rather not talk about what it means with half knowledge. A typical Rajasthani song with kind of house beat to it. Interesting combo isn’t it? Chitra has sung it very well even though it’s in anything but her regular singing languages. Whole song’s decent except for the part when the chorus sings “Aayo re., Aayo re”.

    Alright., the first song might make you buy the album n songs like Haiye re n Hainiya might make you wanna keep it, the remixes might make you think otherwise. All things are not perfect in this world., get the album and enjoy what you believe is beautiful.

    What is love???
    thinks Teal™...,

    “What is love? Baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more.” Goes that hit song by Haddaway, dance hit of the 90’s. So, what is love? How do you define love?

    These are some of the meanings of this magical 4-letter word that I came across via numerous sources:

    • A strong positive emotion of regard and affection
    • Any object of warm affection or devotion
    • A beloved person; used as terms of endearment
    • A deep feeling of sexual desire and attraction

    Therefore, is love is nothing but infatuation?? Is it entirely physical in nature or that shallow? Isn’t “the greatest thing in the world is to be loved and love in return???” What’s with the hype about it, then? When the lexicon itself fails to provide an accurate meaning of this “term”, where would we turn to, I wondered … time to turn to some good ol’ conventional gyaan gurus...

    Poets have written about it, musicians have raved about it. The layman fantasizes about it. Hopeless romantics croon on the subject of it. Skeptics [and people of sound minds] scoff at it and cringe at the very mention of it. Movies, beyond any doubt, make a gargantuan deal over it. I’ve heard people say “hey I loved that girl sincerely for 2 yrs..”, then what happened, I asked. To which he said, ‘Oh, then I married someone else”. Defenders of romanticism will guard their stand stating that love is relative, you would not know unless you experience it, blah…blah…

    So is love “Joy”?

    When in love you must be:

    1. Dreamy eyed all the time
    2. Sigh [aanhen bharofy] at periodic intervals
    3. Doing slow motion running in Swiss Alps, or similar
    4. Lip synching to Sonu Nigam, SPB, or similar
    5. Combining all of the above in dreamland.
    6. Looking out of your window, stare at the vacant skies with chin rested in palm, with such a zany grin across your face, your peers get psyched out and almost dial Kilpauk, or similar.
    7. Some nonsense about appreciating nature’s beauty …[like roses seem more sanguine than usual] which might lead us to believe that all nature lovers are pantaloons, or similar.

    So if love is not joy, then is it “pain”?

    When in love, one must also be:

    1. Emaciated
    2. Lose track of eating and day-to-day activities
    3. Feel absolute misery when you don’t:
      1. Talk to that special person
      2. Meet the one you love.
      3. And end up looking at their framed photo by the bedside [or the wrinkled copy in your wallet], and your mind takes you across the world to the Swiss Alps where you meet them …[which brings us back to the whole dream scenario.]
    4. Lose sleep…[owing to all that dreaming…]
    5. Fight with your lover’s parents over monetary issues, or similar …
    6. Burn holes in pocket due to splurging of gifts [candy, cards, talk time, etc.]

    Allright, head majorly woozy due to info overload … The gyaan gurus have confused me quite a bit, so let me try and précis what I’ve been able to grasp so far …

    If (love==one way) then

    {

    Grow beard, get drunk

    Wear torn shawl, sing songs of woe [preferably alongside a flea infested mongrel]

    }

    else if (love==two way)

    {

    go to previously enlisted points

    }

    else

    {

    Default: dump current object and seek (new object)

    }

    End if

    End sub

    Hmmm… that’s about it I guess.

    PS: this was just the author’s humorous take on the phenomenon popularly known as “love”. Not intended to hurt the sentiments of the lovelorn readers or those who have been lucky to find true love.
